The Programme is foundational, conducted online and designed to train the participants on music therapy basics and principles, methods and procedures on theoretical level apart from introducing Indian music healing systems and the ways it could be integrated into contemporary music therapy practice.
Further, this foundational training programme prepares and motivates the students to take up the one year course on music therapy offered by the School (PGDMT) to begin clinical practice.
The CPMT course participants can switch over to the PGDMT program after successful completion of the course. The switch over is permissible only within a maximum period of one year from the date of completion of CPMT course in which the participant has enrolled. All CPMT candidates do not automatically get switched over to PGDMT. Only those who are fulfilling the eligibility criteria fixed for the PGDMT program and clearing the interview and audition will be eligible for transfer.
The modules relating to CPMT 6 months program are
The Program is run completely online. The duration of the program is six months. The class duration is around 4 to 6 hours per week on designated weekdays between 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm. We also offer a week end CPMT course and the classes are held during the forenoon of the weekend. Classes are provided on Saturdays and Sundays before noon. The induction program for all the batches is usually only in the evenings. Participants have to be present physically online for all the classes. 80 percent attendance is mandatory to get the certificate. If the attendance criteria is not met with, participants will not get a certificate.
Our next batch of CPMT commences in Sep. 2024 on 21 9 2024 which is a weekend morning batch and classes to be held between 9.00 to 11.00 am on Saturdays and Sundays
However, special lectures by external experts as part of the curriculum are scheduled and delivered generally during the week ends, for which the students have to be prepared as it is mandatory to take up these classes.
Musicologists, Musicians, Psychologists, Medical Professionals, Special Educators, Music Educators, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Alternative and Complementary therapists, Sound engineers and/or any bachelor degree holder/diploma holders after completing higher secondary who has a passion for music and want to integrate music and medicine in their work to enhance quality of life of the patients/clients with whom they work with in everyday life.
Strong communication skills in English (both written and spoken) is important for joining the course as the medium of instruction of the course conducted is English and requires the students to participate actively during online class room discussions.
However, candidates who wish to transfer to the one year Post Graduate Diploma in Music Therapy course after completing CPMT necessarily to have a bachelor's degree to meet the eligibility criteria for the PGDMT program
The classes are conducted online via the globally popular and professional CISCO - WEBEX meeting software. We have a distinguished scholar of international repute as Program Director who will be the core faculty. The classes are both didactic and also interactive in nature and open to discussions. All the participants have e-access to the lectures/PowerPoint/notes. 80% attendance is compulsory for obtaining the certificate. Non-compliance to attendance requirements is viewed seriously and the participants who do not meet the attendance criteria will not receive certificates.
Students of online certificate courses also do all the course works related to the I semester of PGDMT and have the option of making an exit with the certificate at the end of 6 months or continue with the PGDMT by appearing for the examinations to complete the I semester of PGDMT and clearing the interview and audition online.
Only if the participants continue with the PGDMT, the internship training (750 hours) is offered at places approved by CSMT
The course fee is Rs.48800/- (inclusive of 18% GST)
Students can make the payment for the course after getting an intimation from the administration that their application is accepted.
Proctored Examination fees are Rs. 5000/- (inclusive of GST) payable at the time of the examinations.
Rewriting exam fees Rs.3000/- (inclusive of GST) payable before rewriting the exams on failing the exams first time
CPMT examinations are conducted online.
CPMT participants who would like to transfer to PGDMT on completion of their 6-month course would have to pay "switch over fees" of Rs.6000/- in addition to the actual fees payable.

On successful completion of the course, CSMT awards a certificate for having been trained on foundational aspects of music therapy. The students will be evaluated by both formative and summative assessments. They have to take up an online examination at the end of the 6 months course to get the CPMT certificate.
Those who switch over to PGDMT within one year of taking up CPMT have to surrender the CPMT certificate to complete the I semester examination of PGDMT and continue to get into the second semester and level II internship training ( Practicum training) to practice as a music therapist.
Students who have not cleared the CPMT online examinations for the first time are given two more opportunities to clear the exams to get the certificate. Totally after three attempts, if the students have not been able to clear the exams they are not eligible for a certificate.
Non-graduates who are taking up the CPMT course cannot switch over to the PGDMT program. Afer completion of the bachelor's degree, they have to enroll separately for the PGDMT program.
