What is the Program About?

This program is a flexible option for mature individuals who have a bachelor’s degree in music or those with degrees in related fields (e.g.,  psychology, special education, occupational therapy, Social Work, Nursing etc.) making a career change as music therapists.  The Post Graduate Diploma  Program prepares the individuals to begin clinical  practice of  medical music therapy after completing the course work and the required internship training in multispeciality hospitals across the country.    The course also offers mentoring to the PGDMT students  to develop  skills and knowledge for specializations in areas such as oncology,.

Duration and Time of the Program

The Course is run online ( participants can attend classes from their home)  for the first six months   through WEBEX online plat and the next six months the participants  have to attend full time supervised internship training in any one the designated internship centers  in Chennai, Pondicherry or Hyderabad apart from online classes for the theory and practicum papers relating to the second semester. The course is thus  for one year.

Our next batch of PGDMT commences on 30 3 2024which is a weekend batch held between 10.00 am to 12.00 noon on Mondays and Fridays

Who can join?


Matured individuals with a bachelor degree in music/any bachelor degree  with demonstrable very good  musical skills acquired by obtaining a formal degree or learning by oral tradition could take up the course on completion of a successful interview and audition. 

What to expect of classes?

During the I semester, all classes are conducted completely in an online mode. The online classes provide comprehensive training on the theory and practice of music therapy during this semester.   The classes are usually held between 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm on designated days of the week(evening batches) and between 10.00 am to 12.00  pm(weekend batch).  There are also weekday Morning batches held between 9 to 11 am. These  theory classes offered through online classrooms have interactive platforms for self learning experiences and instructor lead teaching. As a part of the course, the practical classes and internship training as a part of II semester is facilitated at three places in India at Chennai, Hyderabad and Pondicherry.  All the modules are designed in such a manner that they not only provide didactic lectures in online classroom by expert faculty members but also provide  internship training in multi specialty hospitals across the country.

The students enrolled for the PGDMT program will have an opportunity to try out all music therapy techniques and methods during the comprehensive internship training that is offered as a part of the program The School has a E Library equipped with latest books and research publications in  music therapy from various international journals of repute.

How much does it cost?

The Course fee is Rs. 96000/-

Application fee Rs.300/-

Total Fees Rs.96300/-

Examination fees (Rs.500/- per paper) to be paid at the time of examinations for both the semesters

Bank details for funds transfer by NEFT are furnished below.

Payments are accepted by NEFT after the intimation of admission to the PGDMT program by the administration.

Students are advised not to pay the fees along with the application for PGDMT as there is an interview and audition as criteria to pass for admission to the program.

Certificate

After successful completion of the course, a written examination after Semester I and Semester II,   and the internship training  for 6 months,  the candidates will be awarded a Post Graduate Diploma in Music Therapy certificate from Chennai School of Music Therapy Pvt. Ltd. 

Students have to complete 750 hours of internship training under supervision in a hospital  to take up the final exams  and become eligible to get a Post Graduate Diploma in Music Therapy

Rules

The Post Graduate Diploma will run subject to recruitment of students.
In the event of programe cancellation by Chennai School of Music Therapy, participants will be entitled to a full refund.
No refund is allowed if the applicant wants to cancel the participation after payment of fees and the amount is not transferrable.
Please note that payment of full fees is required for registration and participation in the programme.
Participants have to make their own arrangements for stay and food during internship training / project work.
Places are limited and awarded on a 'first-come first-served' basis

Those candidates who have been notified of admission to PGDMT program  after attending interview and audition, if they are not able to take up the specific course for some reason, cannot be considered again for the same course if they apply for the second time. So, candidates to apply only if they have an intention to join the course.
