Dr. Sumathy Sundar

is the founding Director of  Chennai School of Music Therapy and currently also serves Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, Pondicherry as Director, Centre for Music Therapy Education and Research, an initiative of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth University.  She is a clinician music therapist, educator and a music therapy consultant in India and has researched for her Ph.D. degree in musical interventions for cancer care. She has Masters degree both in Indian music and Applied Psychology and was the co founder of Nada Centre for Music Therapy Nada
 

She is also the present World Federation of Music Therapy Chair for the Commission on Education and Training.  She currently serves on the Editorial board of journal Music and Medicine, journal Music Therapy Today and Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine and is one of the founding members of International Association of Music and Medicine. She also presently serves as a member of the board of directors for IAMM. Keen on identifying cultural sensitivities, she focuses on integrating western music therapy and the more cultural, traditional and spiritual eastern music . She is the Programme Director and core faculty of the online Certificate Programme and the Post Graduate Diploma Programme in music therapy of the School. She along with her colleague Dr. Baishali Mukherjee has  launched the first structured early childhood education programme in India through music and movement called "Music Mom" to build pre-academic skills from Chennai School of Music Therapy.
